Help provide an exciting future life skills opportunity for young students in a new programme being launched next year.
The new education outreach programme is an innovative mentoring programme with the aim of helping students successfully progress into the next stage of education or employment.
Form the Future is a social enterprise which aims to inspire students by linking schools and businesses and offers local professionals an opportunity to join the mentoring programme.
Sean Callow, from Form the Future, said: “We are extremely excited about this, as we believe it has the potential to make a real difference to the lives of young people in our community.
“We are looking for mentors, from businesses and organisations, who are eager to help students with their development.”
Cambridgeshire Police is a partner and is devising the training programme with initial training to take place at Cambridge Police Station starting January 11 and will last for two to three hours.
“The first mentoring session is scheduled to take place during January 25. There will be one date for Sawston but the Long Road dates will depend on students’ timetables. We anticipate that you will meet with your mentee once every half-term until the end of the school year.
“We are very keen to hear from prospective mentors as soon as possible.”
The programme will give volunteers the chance to work with students at Long Road Sixth Form College, Sawston Village College and North Cambridge Academy.
Looking for help are the following:
•Long Road Sixth Form College Year 12 students are looking for help finding direction and making decisions about their next steps in education or employment. •Sawston Village College Year 9 students who qualify for free school meals. The focus will be on helping them develop motivation and aspiration.
•North Cambridge Academy would like mentors for high ability Year 10 students who could benefit from additional motivation and support.
