THE Inner Wheel Club of Ely held its annual overseas service fund-raising evening at St Mary's Church Hall last Wednesday. President Jenny Axford welcomed members and their guests, together with representatives from the Inner Wheel clubs of Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Newmarket and Watton and the president of the Rotary Club of Ely, Keith Butterworth and his wife, Jackie. An excellent supper was organised by Jackie Wade and provided and prepared by club members.

President Jenny introduced the speakers for the evening: Jude McCarthy and Jono Gilmurray. Mrs McCarthy's son Jack is autistic and, while living in Nairobi, has attended the Acorn School, which uses the USA-based Sunrise Programme. Her daughter Hayley and fiancé Jono work at the school, and they are all trying to raise much needed funds for the project. President Jenny gave the vote of thanks for such an inspiring talk and presented a cheque of £500 to Mrs McCarthy - raised on the evening. The next meeting of Inner Wheel will be annual meeting June 28 at the Old Dispensary at 7.30pm.
