A PAIR of illegal immigrants were caught by police trying to flee from the back of a lorry that had pulled up right outside Ely Police Station on Wednesday.
The incident happened at around 11.30am with traffic on Nutholt Lane brought to a standstill while officers raced to catch the pair seen climbing from the rear of the lorry.
Officers in the station were alerted to the incident by the driver of the HGV, who had pulled over outside the building and had began frantically sounding his horn having become concerned about suspicious noises in the rear of the vehicle.
Startled PCSOs then raced to the scene with officers who arrested the pair under the immigration act.
