Eleanor Johnson of Snip’etts Hair Studio won two trophies at the College of West Anglia Apprenticeship Awards.

“I was shocked and excited... I thought I was just going to get a piece of paper,” said Ms Johnson, 18.

Paul Davis, creative director of Top to Toe Hairdressing and Beauty Salon in Wisbech, also presented Eleanor with a specially-designed award.

“To be awarded gives you a bit of a boost. I’m passionate and really enjoy my job, though I do struggle with theory.

“But I pulled it together and passed nine exams – four of them in one day and the last with 100 per cent.”

Eleanor, who lived in America before moving to England aged 10, said apprenticeships are a good way of learning while on the job and earning a bit of money.

Vicki Singh, manageress of Snip’etts, said the award is really exciting for the shop and the “family” who work their.

“Eleanor’s been with us for three or four years and is a brilliant asset to our salon.

“She’s really creative, picks things up quickly and puts a stamp on her work. Eleanor’s got a great future ahead of her.”

Hannah now stands a chance of being crowned the overall apprentice of the year at the college’s annual student awards on June 29.
