The event opened on Friday with a special preview for more than 200 children from nurseries and primary schools.

The youngsters were able to choose their favourite tree and hear the Christmas story before being given a booklet telling the Christmas story to take away with them.

The Christmas fair was held on Saturday in the hall and cakes, books, refreshments and gifts were on sale.

On Sunday, a service of morning worship led by Rev Joanne Sherwood was held and included hymns, poems and readings from some of the groups that had decorated trees.

The festival was then open for the afternoon with more musical entertainment, before the closing service again led by Rev Sherwood.

A spokesman for the church said: “Throughout the weekend about 400 visitors were welcomed into the church to enjoy the variety of skills shown on the decorated trees, add a prayer to the prayer tree, or just sit and reflect.”
