A HUMBLE hero who saved the lives of two men, including David Law, of Littleport, has been honoured for his actions.

Sid Coles resuscitated Mr Law when he collapsed at the Grunty Fen Household Waste Recycling Centre last October.

Then in June he rushed to the aid of his former teacher after he was taken ill at the waste recycling centre in March.

His efforts saved the man's life and when he came round he recognised his former pupil.

Now Sid's quick-thinking has won him a special honorary award in Recognition of Outstanding Customer Service from Cambridgeshire County Council, chief executive, Ian Stewart.

He visited Sid at the Wisbech Household Recycling Centre where he works to present the award.

But Sid is humble about his efforts claiming he was just doing his job.

Ian said: "Sid is very modest about what he did but there is no doubt in my mind that he is a hero and saved two lives. If it wasn't for Sid's quick thinking and training who knows what could have happened.

"His actions exemplify the dedication and professionalism of the staff at the recycling centres. Health and safety is paramount at the centres and we are glad that Sid's training has meant he knew exactly what to do. As soon as I heard about him I wanted to make sure his actions were recognised.
