A local hospitality group has forked out nearly £600,000 to land a grade-II listed pub on the outskirts of Newmarket.

The Chestnut Group has paid £580,000 to buy The Three Blackbirds in Woodditton after it was put up for sale by property specialists, Fleurets.

Simon Jackaman of Fleurets said: “We received considerable interest in this property which isn’t a surprise given its location, the attractiveness of the building as well as the potential with the planning for the rooms.”

The Three Blackbirds is the fourth pub to be bought by The Chestnut Group, with it also owning the Packhorse Inn in Moulton, the Rupert Brooke in Grantchester, The White Horse in Easton and The Northgate in Bury St Edmunds, which is to open next month.

“The Three Blackbirds is an excellent acquisition for The Chestnut Group and further enhances the companies focus on good quality units in excellent locations,” Mr Jackaman added.
