TERRIE Gormley is on a one-woman mission to make the people around her feel better.
Owner of the Imagine holistic therapy salon in Littleport, Terrie provides a wide range of beauty treatments as well as alternative therapies - and a sympathetic ear - to her clients.
She has decided to support The Ely Standard Shop Local campaign because of the support she has received from her family, friends and community.
She said: "Local people are so important to me. I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received from everyone around me and I want to give something back. By supporting Shop Local, I will be doing for all the other local businesses what they have done for me. I have recently been donating gift vouchers to charities and school fetes, to help them raise money, and I am always swapping business card and flyers. Word of mouth in a positive manner is the way forward for our community.
"I shop locally and would be lost without these on my doorstep, both at home and at work, and I am very strong believer in donating to local charity shops."
Terrie, who has run her Main Street salon for just over a year, also prides herself on her relaxed and friendly approach to her business. As a mum of four, she is proud of her children and how they have adapted to her being a working mum.
She said: "It helps that a lot of my clients are mums at their school, it helps them understand I'm not the only busy mummy!"
Terrie takes the time to get to know her client and put their minds at ease about any treatments they will be trying for the first time.
"People are often a little worried about holistic therapies," she said. "But I am more than happy to explain each procedure in detail over a cup of tea. I want my customers to feel as relaxed as possible. I have found that offering beauty treatments is a great way of getting to know people and introducing them gently to holistic treatments. Very often, they will come in for something simple like an eyebrow wax but by the end of the treatment we have talked about everything and I have learnt a lot about them - and how I can help them."
Terrie is one of the few practitioners of the non-surgical micro-dermabrasion skin treatment in the Ely area. She also caters for everybody, male or female, young or old - although under-16s must have written parental consent before they come into the salon for a treatment.
