YOU can now support our Help Our Hospice campaign at The Atrium Club in Ely.

The Newnham Street fitness centre joins Cambridge Building Society, Cloisters Antiques and the Ely Standard office as a collection point for unwanted mobile phones.

Each of the phones we have collected so far (more than 200) will be recycled, earning us around £5 for the Milton Children's Hospice.

As well as helping to collect phones, the Atrium Club raised £65 towards the appeal by selling Mothers' Day gift vouchers for £5 each - allowing mums to treat themselves to the use of all of the Atrium's facilities.

Next month, a group from Swavesey will be teaching people how to scuba dive - with all proceeds going to Milton Hospice.

"We saw the write-up on the front page of The Ely Standard," said manager Steve Bradley, "and we thought it was a worthy cause - we don't want to the hospice to suffer because it is struggling to raise funds."

If this was not enough, a brave fitness instructor at the club is having a sponsored wax for the campaign.

Greg Hill, 27, is having his legs, chest and underarm hair waxed, following a suggestion from colleagues at The Atrium.

"The sadistic people here want to see me in pain," he said.

Mr Hill will be waxed by beautician Zoe Furness at the club on Tuesday, April 25.

Anyone interested in sponsoring him can fill in a sponsorship form at The Atrium reception.

Fund-raisers prepare to cook up a real tasty treat

MEMBERS of the Sutton Conservative Club are showing their generosity by having two fund-raising events for the Milton Hospice this weekend.

Tomorrow night (Friday), a Play Your Cards Right evening will take place, based around the popular television game show.

This will be followed on Saturday by a sponsored pickled onion eat.

Five club members will be aiming to gobble 50 onions in 10 minutes, and will surely need all the support they can get.

There will be a raffle each night to raise more funds.

Finally, on April 22, money from the club's change bottle, which has been on the bar since Christmas, will be counted and presented to Marion Hough, a hospice representative. All the events start at 8.30pm.

Tony Rutterford, entertainments organiser for the club, at The Brook, said: "We are hoping to raise more than £1,000 in all. Since people knew our change bottle was for Milton Hospice, the pennies have been flying in."

SATURDAY: There will be a cake stall and raffle being donate to the Milton Hospice. The event takes place outside Littleport Bargain Centre, from 9am.

SATURDAY APRIL 22: St Andrew's Social Centre in Isleham will be holding a coffee morning in aid of EACH on Saturday, April 22.

The event, from 10am-12pm, will include a cake stall, a bring-and-buy sale and a raffle.

Darts League gives finals proceeds to the appeal

THE Willhad Dart League has donated the proceeds from its winter league finals night to our campaign, raising an incredible £85 for EACH.
