HIGH-tech police methods were used when Littleport man Timothy Buchanan was caught driving without insurance or an MoT.

Officers had been using an automatic number plate recognition system when Buchanan was stopped on the A10, and admitted he had no insurance. The police national computer revealed that his MoT certificate had run out.

Thirty-eight-year-old Buchanan, of Cedar Court, Littleport was convicted of both offences by Ely magistrates on Thursday.

He was fined £525, six points were endorsed on his licence, and the court ordered him to pay £42 costs and a £15 surcharge.
