High praise for Wilburton school

A WILBURTON school has received glowing praise from OfSTED following a recent inspection.

A WILBURTON school has received glowing praise from OfSTED following a recent inspection.

The Harbour School was described by inspectors as outstanding, with the quality of care and the knowledge of staff receiving particular praise.

“This is a well managed residential provision where children receive a high standard of well-planned and effective care from experienced and knowledgeable staff,” inspectors said, following an inspection visit in March.

“Children benefit from the provision of a safe and nurturing environment and have exceptionally good relationships with staff.”

They said outstanding arrangements were in place at the school to support the good health of children and to promote their general well-being.

The school, on Station Road, caters for about 80 children with special educational needs and was first opened in the village in 2003.

Headteacher Mary Rayner said: “We are of course delighted with the outcome. I feel that the report truly reflects the outstanding residential provision here at The Harbour School. All the staff have worked to support all the boys attending the school and its residential provision and it a great to have this recognised seal of approval.”

The report also praised the school’s work in helping children achieve well and enjoy what they do. “Children are provided with outstanding support and encouragement to enjoy and achieve. They benefit from the nurturing care and support provided by staff who are passionate about promoting good outcomes for children,” it added.

Inspectors said organisation at the school was also outstanding. “This is a well-managed service where children receive a high standard of care. The staff team are committed and competent, they are also passionate about their role in the care and support of the children.

“Staff are well trained and have an excellent understanding of children’s individual and group needs.

“The promotion of equality and diversity is outstanding. The consistent and well planned care that children receive assists them to achieve their full potential,” added the report.
