Police in East Cambridgeshire called for drivers to slow down over the weekend as they dealt with a spate of accidents.
On Sunday police dealt with four collisions and followed that up today with a further collision.
The most serious incident was at Witcham Toll on the A142 where the driver –a woman of 82- had a lucky escape.
A police spokesman said: “The vehicle has been damage to the point of probable write off, but thankfully the two occupants - an incredibly hardy 82 year old lady and her dog - walked away unharmed.
“Take care on those rural roads folks - they are cold and slippery, particularly first thing on a morning.”
At 7am today police said another vehicle was written off after they got a call to attend an incident in Pools Road, Wilburton.
“The accident has now been cleared in that area but please approach that stretch with prior warning,” said a spokesman.
“Yesterday we counted up four write offs across East Cambs -today this is our first and probably not our last (sadly),” he said. “Thankfully reports at this time suggest minor injury only.
“Rural driving has extra risks built into it. There is a much higher rate of fatality on the rural roads of East Cambs than there are in the built up areas of Cambridge etc.
“We desperately want to avoid a fatality in these early months of 2016. Please slow down, leave a little more time for your journey, and take that extra measure of care at junctions and when you need to over take.
“We will be sending messages out to our local farmers to do all they can to pay attention to mud the agricultural vehicles carry onto the highways.”
On Sunday paramedics treated a driver for minor injuries after a collision outside Little Downham towards Ely. The vehicle was badly damaged.
PC Gerry Cronin said: “The conditions were bad out there. Mud on the road, standing water to side, heavy rain, limited visibility and low temperature.
“This is the fourth vehicle we have recovered today – many thanks to East of England Ambulance Service who are working incredibly hard.”
Police were also called to:
*Six Mile Bottom: London Road junction with Wilbraham Road a tree fell and blocked one land of traffic.
* Clayway Farm, Branch Bank half way between Queen Adelaide and Littleport a vehicle ended up in the ditch. The driver was injured and both fire and ambulance crews attended.
* A10 near Stretham a vehicle collided with falling debris from a wagon. The vehicle, too, was badly damaged.
