HEARTLESS thieves have left a fundraiser angry after they stole a car seat she was trying to sell for charity.

Sarah Whiteside, and two friends, have been raising money for the CPS Orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal, for five years and are the sole source of income for the home, which cares for 12 young orphans.

Ms Whiteside, of Swaffham Road, Burwell, often sells items from a stall in front of her house, using an 'honesty box' and has never previously had a problem.

She told the Ely Standard: "I have raised hundreds of pounds doing this and I have never had anything taken without it being paid for until now. I left a Brittax Renaissance car seat out on Monday, April 6, and I arrived home to find someone had stolen it, which would have happened between 3.45pm and 4.15pm.

"The seat costs £145 new and was in good condition. I would like the person responsible to pay the £40 I was asking for it."

Ms Whiteside got involved with the orphanage following a trip to Nepal with friends, who have relatives in the army at Waterbeach barracks. The trio were aghast at the conditions that they discovered the orphans living in and decided they would become patrons.

She added: "£40 really is a great deal of money out in Nepal. Every penny these children get makes a world of difference so it really makes me sad that someone would do this.

"I would very much like the person who did this to pay the money through my door or they can send it through to me via the Ely Standard."
