TODDLERS arrived at their playschl n Tuesday mrning t discver vandals had wrecked their vegetable and flwer garden.

Play leaders had t break the sad news t the yungsters at Tiddlywinks Pre-schl in Stretham just as their tulip and daffdil bulbs were abut t flwer.

The 20 excited three and fur-year-lds had been checking n their garden's prgress every day and were delighted t see the tps f nins planted in their flwer bed had started t appear.

But vandals walked thrugh the flwer bed, destrying the nins and ripped up all the plants, leaving nthing that culd be salvaged.

They als littered the garden with chips including sme which had been chewed and spat ut.

It is the secnd time in tw mnths that the children's garden has been targeted. It was damaged just befre Christmas but play leaders managed t rescue it.

Play leader, Ginny Rsser launched the gardening prject with the children, planting the bulbs in the autumn.

She said: "It's awful. I just can't believe smene culd d such a thing.

"We wanted t grw vegetables that we culd eat and ck and share tgether. The children had been watching their bulbs grw and develp. The plants were just abut t flwer. Once the flwers had finished we were ging t take ut the bulbs and grw herbs and carrts and ptates.

"The children had been lking at them every day when they went ut t play. They wuld shw their mums when the came t pick them up. It was very imprtant t them and they wn't understand why this has happened. But we wn't be beaten by this, we will carry n."

Pre-schl manager, Susan Yardy, said: "The children had wrked really hard and every day they wuld talk abut hw their plants were grwing. Their little faces were s sad. It desn't give yu any heart t d anything.
