ON Monday, January 15, 36 walkers, plus the three leaders met at the church for the Monday walk. Led by Liz Gwinnett, with David Clarke and Laurie Budd at the back, their walk this week took them through the church alley and over to College Road, through the college complex to Sand Street, up the Butts and around King's Parade, Sand Street, Fordham Road, Orchard Road, Military Road, Cornmills Road and onto Fordham Road, Sand Street, Clay Street and finally Saucey Meg's for welcome refreshments. A total of 3.2 miles. Lunch on Monday, January 15. Members and friends of the walking group enjoyed lunch cooked by Joan and Ken Chapman at the bowls club. Birthday greetings were sung to Liz, who was presented with a card signed by everyone and she was also given a birthday cake. David thanked Liz on behalf of everyone for organising the walks each week. A collection was made for charity and this was added to profit made from the lunch. A total of £117 will be donated to the Arthur Rank Hospice Fund. Liz thanked Ken, Joan and the helpers for organising the lovely lunch. Tea and birthday cake were enjoyed before the group went home.
