The head teacher at Littleport Community Primary School has paid tribute to his staff after the school received glowing praise from Ofsted.

John Cattermole said turning the school around had been “a huge team effort” and said he hoped the school could now push on towards becoming outstanding.

The primary school, in Parsons Lane, was rated as ‘requiring improvement’ in an inspection in 2013 but Ofsted inspectors said great strides had been made since then and rated the school as ‘good’ in an inspection carried out last month.

Mr Cattermole said: “It has been a huge team effort. I have been at the school for 18 months but the work really started two years ago.

“It has very much been a team effort from leaders down to teachers and support staff. We have got some brilliant teachers at our school and they all make a massive difference to our children.”

Lead inspector, Wendy Varney said in her report: “The head teacher provides very strong leadership and the school is improving very quickly as a result.

“His vision for the school is very clear and he has identified the right priorities to focus on. The head teacher has introduced very thorough systems for monitoring the quality of teaching and learning, and standards are rising as a result.

“The school has a very positive atmosphere and there is a very clear expectation that

pupils will behave well and work hard.”
