Police are on the look out for an excavator after it was stolen from a field in Stuntney near Ely.

It is believe that the blue Kubota excavator, which is owned by Anglian Water, was taken from the field prior to 9pm on Wednesday November 25.

The excavator’s GPRS tracking device has been removed and was found dumped in Freckenham, Suffolk at around 9pm on Wednesday, leading the police to be believe the vehicle was stolen shortly before.

The piece of equipment is valued in the region of £50,000.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “We can confirm a Kubota KX057-4 Excavator was stolen from a field in Stuntney, Ely before 9pm on Wednesday, November 25. The excavator was on site to repair a section of water main.

“We will continue to help Cambridgeshire Police with their on-going investigations. If you have any information to report in relation to this theft or if you saw anything suspicious please contact Cambridgeshire Police.”

Sgt Phi Priestley said: “If you have seen this vehicle or if you know where it is at this time, please contact the police calling 101 as soon as you can.”
