A STRETHAM woman is planning to mark her first visit to the hairdressers for almost a decade by having her head shaved for charity.

Donna Bright has avoided the barber’s clippers for more than eight years but is hoping to raise 500 for cancer charity MPD Support and felt the time was right for her precious locks to go.

Donna’s husband Dominic was diagnosed with a rare form of blood cancer two years ago and the couple wanted to help support the charity by raising money.

MPD Support is based at Guy’s Hospital in London and offers support to patients suffering from myeloproliferative disorders like blood cancer.

“I decided to have my head shaved because everyone has always said how lovely my hair is and I thought, why not?,” said Donna, “I think my whole family were shocked when I said I was planning to do it and some of them though I wouldn’t go through with it because I do like a good joke.

“My husband has started to give me funny looks because he is trying to picture me bald! I told him if I like it I might stay bald in the future.”

The event is set to take place from 10am at the David Green hairdressers on Fore Hill in the city on August 7.
