Post Office Consultation

The parish council had considered a consultation document on the future of the post office network and responses to a questionnaire will be returned setting out the following points:

# The criteria for the rural areas should be that 95 per cent of the population are within 1.5 miles of a post office, not the proposed three miles. The elderly, disabled and children cannot be expected to walk three miles, especially where there are no footpaths or public transport.

# A mobile post office service might be useful to very small remote villages of 50 houses or less.

# Foreseeable problems with the continuity of people running a community-owned post office plus the security of funds.

Environmental Agency Project

Pat Sones will be invited to attend the next meeting to talk to the councillors about a project to purchase land in the parish to provide a controlled habitat for wading birds.

Recreation

A burglary had occurred at the pavilion on January 24. The offenders had smashed in the main door and broken a locked kitchen cupboard, then stolen items belonging to the youth and football clubs. Both fire extinguishers were emptied and one thrown across the field. The police attended the scene, but unfortunately there was no useful forensic evidence to be found. Following this, on January 30, a side window was smashed but entry was not gained to the building. This incident was also reported to the police.

There are continuing problems with the boarding around the all-weather surface being kicked in to gain access and alternative preventative measures are being investigated. The parish council will pay £500 reward to anyone giving evidence which leads to the conviction of a person or persons causing malicious damage to parish council property.

Station Road Closed Landfill Site

Following a site meeting between parish councillors and the county council, an outline proposal for future use had been received, which appears very favourable. Further talks will be held in the near future. A request had also been received from Haddenham Conservation Society regarding a permissive footpath, which would tie in with the project and the council is also considering this.

It was agreed that Mr Kitchener from Cambridgeshire County Council should be invited along to the annual parish meeting on April 24 to give a presentation on the proposals.
