Dick Powell’s new album ‘Cambridge Skies’ is a mix of country, folk, blues and rock.

The songs were recorded by local bands and artists, each song taking a maximum of four hours to record.

Dick said: “The idea was to write songs about Cambridgeshire and among the tracks are songs about Wicken Fen, the A10, Haddenham, Mill Road and Ely, in addition to the traffic jams in Cambridge.

“All of the bands and artists gave their time for free and both the recording studio and production company are Cambridge based, and the design company are in Ely, so it’s a truly local project.”

‘Cambridge Skies’ is released on October 2, initially just in Cambridgeshire,

though he says “there has been a wider interest already, with advance copies sold in Brazil, New Zealand and the USA”.

Forty years ago, Cambridge folk-rock band Spriguns, which Dick was a member of, released their second album ‘Time Will Pass’ on Decca.
