An East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) volunteer from Haddenham has raised £1,100 for the charity by walking 72 miles in 17-and-a-half hours.

Claire Law achieved the feat at the recent Centurions qualifying race in Bury St Edmunds, which challenges participants to walk 100 miles (161km) in 24 hours.

Her efforts to reach that particular milestone were sadly halted by injury but the 43-year-old, who also took part in a 93-mile charity walk in May, said the physical and social benefits that came from the walk made it all worthwhile.

She said: “I have always run to keep fit, but race walking is a fabulous way to lose weight and meet friends. I dropped a dress size and have learnt so much about my limits and inner strength.”

The money Claire has raised will help EACH continue providing care for children with life-threatening conditions and support for their families.
