SOHAM man Carl Scarrow changed his plea this week, and admitted stealing almost £2,000 worth of lead belonging to the Countess Free Church in Ely.

He also changed his plea in respect of four more charges - including an allegation that he stole metal from the Environment Agency in Ely.

Scarrow, 26, of Broad Piece, further admitted that he drove a Transit van without insurance or an MoT certificate and failed to produce his licence to the police, all on March 27.

He had already admitted driving when disqualified and without insurance on May 28, and stealing meat from the Co-op in Littleport on May 30.

The court agreed to adjourn sentencing until July 26 and remanded Scarrow in custody.
