An Ely teenager has raised almost £1,000 for a charity that’s close to his heart by braving the shave.
Gregory Middleton decided to have his hair cut off because his granddad has cancer.
The 13-year-old, who goes to St Bede’s School in Cambridge, originally set his target for £515 but has now raised £950.
Gregory said: “I decided to brave the shave to raise money for Macmillan.
“I know that the support given by Macmillan nurses is fantastic. I have close family with cancer and we do not live near them and I know that they will need help.
“To pay for nursing support for a week costs over £1,000, but I wasn’t sure if I could realistically raise that much in today’s financial climate.
“My target was for half that amount. It would be amazing if I could raise the full £1,000 though.”

Gregory’s mum, Sarah Middleton, said: “I am so proud of him.
“He’s at that very sensitive age where your appearance, size and what people think about you is hugely important.
“He’ll be happy when his hair grows back but he really wanted to do it and was happy to have it cut off.
“I think he just wanted to know that he’s done something, not just for his granddad but for other people as well.”
