A SUTTON great-grandfather has been banned from driving for four years after his wife died in a car crash.
William Ronald Brown, 77, known as Ron, of The Orchards, was driving when his Skoda Octavia collided with a van on the A142 outside Witchford, in March last year. The van driver, a 36-year-old from Little Downham, was unhurt, but Brown's 76-year-old wife Phyllis was killed as the car somersaulted due to the impact, landing on its roof opposite the Alderforth turning. Brown suffered what police described as "minor injuries."
He pleaded guilty to death by dangerous driving at Cambridge Crown Court and was given a 765 fine as part of his sentence.
