SOHAM Staploe Rotary Club presented cheques to the beneficiaries of its successful beer festival this week.
The Liam Fairhurst Foundation, which supports young people with life threatening conditions, was the festival’s chosen charity this year and Callum Fairhurst and his dad Mark received a cheque for £4,927.83.
The duo attended the club’s meeting at the Cherry Tree pub last Wednesday.
The second cheque went to the parish nursing scheme in Ely and Burwell, represented by nurses Claire Gillett who works out of Ely and Sue Evans MBE whose patch is around Burwell.
Parish nurses work with those in need of nursing and spiritual help and are relatively new in this country, the movement having started in the USA some twenty five years ago.
The nurses benefited by £366 as a result of the auction conducted by honorary Rotarian David Palmer on the Saturday of the festival.
