Golden wedding couple say secret to happy marriage is love and tolerance

The former post office mistress of Witcham and Isleham is celebrating her golden wedding anniversary - and her husband says the secret to a happy marriage is to dream together, work together and have tolerance.

Stuart Newman and Susan Cleave were married at St Augustine’s Church Wisbech on the June 1 in 1967.

Mr Newman said: “How to live together for 50 years? Dream together, work together have tolerance, give and take above all love.”

Mrs Newman used to run two sub post offices and shops in Witcham and Isleham.

The pair began married life when they lived in Fenland Road, Wisbech, where they built their own house, until moving to Kent in 1972 where their daughter was born in 1976.

The following year they moved to Staffordshire where their son was born in 1978.

They moved back to Cambridgeshire in 1985.

Stuart enjoyed a professional career in the architectural profession and design and build management for national construction companies.

Susan had a wool and haberdashery shop before becoming a full time mum.

When moving back to Cambridgeshire she ran the post offices and shops.

Stuart and Sue are now retired and live in Chatteris, near their son and his family, whilst their daughter and family having recently moved to Devon.
