A NEW Billy Goat Super Vac is helping Littleport to clear up the mess left by teenagers who are smashing empty bottles in a children's play area.

The parish council has been inundated with complaints from parents anxious that the children's play area at Parson's Lane is not safe because of broken glass.

Lynda Clark-Jones, Littleport parish council clerk, said there was a real problem with young people coming in the evenings to drink alcohol and then breaking empty bottles all over play equipment.

"Before we purchased the Billy Goat, two cemetery staff were picking up glass with the help of thick gloves and a litter-picker but it was taking too long and they couldn't get it all up," she said. "The Billy Goat is like a sit on vacuum cleaner with a super hose that sucks up glass even from underneath cracks in the play equipment in no time at all.
