TWO of the founder members of Ely Cathedral Girls' Choir have earned a place in the history books after becoming the first female members of the society of Ely choristers.

Angelica Ferentinos and Charlotte Le Moignan, who have just completed their final year at the King's School, were founder members of the Girls' Choir at its launch last autumn.

Charlotte was also one of the first girl choristers at Lincoln Cathedral.

She said: "It is a very special honour for both of us to be the first girls to be admitted to the society of former Ely choristers. We have had a wonderful musical education in the English choral tradition. We have also had great fun and I know we'll look forward to returning to the cathedral and listening to the choir in the future."

Both girls were admitted to the Societas Choristarum Eliensium by the Dean, the Rev Dr Michael Chandler, during a ceremony at the end of Evensong on Sunday when family and friends were among the congregation.

Dr Chandler joked: "We are in the habit of referring to the 'old boys' but I don't think the term 'old girls' would be appropriate.
