The first qualifier in a new national point-to-pointing series will be held on Sunday 29 at Cottenham Racecourse.
The Subaru restricted series starts at the Cottenham season opener for Cambridge University United Hunts Club
The fixture holds great significance in the point-to-point calendar, as it is one of two meetings heralding the start of the new season.
Supporting races for horses that have not won any race under the rules of any recognised racing authority other than a maiden or hunt members race, the Subaru Restricted Series will run across 26 national qualifiers culminating in a grand final at Stratford racecourse in May 2016.
Andrew Ballard, managing director of Cambridge Subaru, said: “We are looking forward to meeting local supporters of the Cambridge University United Hunts Club fixture as well as cheering on the first winner of the Subaru Restricted Point-to-Point Series, after all, the restricted horses are the starts of tomorrow.
“It’s great to have the opportunity to meet local equestrian enthusiasts and I would encourage anyone with an interest in horses to come along.”
Spanning six months, it is the longest of the current national series and a significant monetary prize is on offer at the end-of-season showdown of £10,000. Point-to-Point racing is a great introduction to equestrian sport for children and families. The cost of the day is £13 per person, Students and OAP’s are £10 and under 16’s are free. Entry includes a race card and parking is free.
