Littleport’s Heritage Centre is gearing up to host a special exhibition looking back at the village’s historic association with Fen skating.

The centre, in Main Street, will open from 10am-4.30pm on Saturday and on February 28 to showcase a range of archive material, including skates, films, and photographs.

The event will also see illustrated talks from David Smith and Nigel Drake, of the National Skating Association, and will offer visitors an insight into plans for a 400metre speed skating rink in Littleport.

Lyn Guest de Swarte, who helped organise the event, said: “There will be plenty of items of memorabilia to browse and pore over all day on those two days plus the 3pm fascinating illustrated talks by David Smith and a chance to talk to him and other members of the centre’s newly named Welney, Littleport and District Division.

“There is also going to be a petition of support for the building of the first indoor 400 metre ice speedskating competition and leisure track in the UK, with an inner short track, ice hockey and figure ice pad, next to the visitors book that people can sign.”
