Fans of Cambridge United will be able to get their hands on the team’s haul of trophies at a special event planned for Ely.

On Wednesday, July 9, a U’s representative will bring the FA Trophy, Skrill Premier League runner-up trophy and the play-off final winner’s trophy to the Townhouse pub, in Market Street.

The trophies will be on display from 11am until 11pm and fans will be able to lift the trophies for themselves from 6.30-9pm.

The event has been organised by Townhouse regular, and long-time Cambridge United fan, Mark Rayner, whose hopeful call to the club was well and truly rewarded.

Mark, from Mepal, said: “I have seen the trophies myself two or three times already at different events but I have resisted from holding them up until now. I don’t know if I will be able to do it when they come to Ely but I’ll probably have a go!

“I went to watch quite a lot of the games last season and it was a very good season for the club so I am really pleased we will be able to see the trophies here.”

In a landmark 2013/14 season, United finished second in the Skrill Premier, won promotion to League 2 via the play-offs and beat Gosport Borough to claim the FA Trophy.
