WORLD-famous feminist Germaine Greer dropped into Ely on Tuesday afternoon.

About 200 people joined her for a literary lunch at Ely Cathedral's Lady Chapel.

Ms Greer was promoting her new book Shakespeare's Wife which sheds new light on the life of Anne Hathaway, who married Shakespeare in 1582.

Ms Greer took questions from the audience and signed books afterwards.

Robert Topping from Topping Bookseller, who organised the event, said: "She was very well received and kept people amused with funny stories about her time studying in Cambridge. She said used to cycle from Cambridge to Ely but struggled to make it back because her backside was so sore."

Other writers to appear at Ely Cathedral as part of Topping's autumn events include Paul Merton, Ruth Rendell and John Simpson.

For more information visit Topping on High Street, Ely or telephone 01353 645005.
