An Ely man did his bit for charity on Saturday by having his legs waxed and his hair shaved off to raise £700.

Anthony Sigrist decided to brave the shave so that his hair could be put to better use – like forming wigs for children who are helped by The Little Princess Trust.

He had his hair cut off by Sophie Goodson, who runs her own Hair by Sophie hairdressing company in Ely. But not until she suggested that Anthony should parade through the Apple Festival with his hair tied up.

“It was a great idea because it helped us to raise an extra £100,” Anthony said.

“We were basically offering people the chance to cut off a strand of my hair and around 20 people took that chance.”

He also chose to have his legs waxed because he knew a great number of his friends would pay to see him suffer.

He said: “The wax was interesting. What you can see in the picture is real – genuine raw emotion. It really was quite painful.”

Anthony’s combined fundraising total so far is £700, with donations still coming in through his online JustGiving fundraising page: www.justgiving.com/Anthony-Sigrist/

The money which Anthony has raised will go towards East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices and the hair will be sent off to be made into wigs for The Little Princess Trust.
