A bucket collection organised by the Ely Hereward Rotary Club at the city’s Tesco store on Saturday January raised nearly £300 to help victims of the floods in the north of England.
This, along with donations from the club and its members, means that £500 was sent this week direct to the Rotary organisations in Cumbria and Yorkshire, who are fundraising on behalf of victims.
Janet Porter, club president, said: “We are grateful to Tesco for allowing this collection at short notice, and to the generosity of Tesco’s shoppers, and as this money is being sent directly to Rotary in the north of England it means that it can be put to use immediately.”
