Students at Soham Village College have achieved the best GCSE exam results in the school’s history.
In total, 70 per cent of students achieved the benchmark qualifications of five GCSEs at grade C or above including maths and English. Last year’s national average was 55 per cent.
Among the school’s outstanding achievers was George Hall, who achieved a perfect 12 A* grades.
Joseph Robbins, Sebastian Shiers, Lucy Wilkinson, Ella Peake, Sebastian Pettit, George Tuli, Chloe Ashman, Nicholas Halls, James Armer, Ryan Pettitt, Ana Lucia Fernandes, Emily May and Alfie Williams also achieved the majority of their GCSEs at grade A*.
Success in English over the last two years was matched this year by very high achievement in maths, in which a significant number of students achieved better than expected results.
Principal Dr Carin Taylor said: “There is rightly considerable focus on achievement in maths and English and I am very pleased that results in these key subjects are so strong.
“I am particularly pleased that results in all subjects are exceptional this year and that our students are able to move onto the next phase of their education or training with evidence of great achievement in a wide range of subjects and having enjoyed rich opportunities beyond the curriculum too.
“We wish them all every success in the future.”
Nicola Close, chairman of the Staploe Education Trust, said: “We are delighted with this year’s results which reflect the hard work put in by staff and pupils.”
