UNUSUAL vegetables or perhaps, as our speaker Mike Day of NIAB said, unusual types of common vegetables was the illustrated talk at our April meeting. NIAB in Cambridge started in 1919 to research and breed varieties of seeds. Mike then spoke about the variety of vegetables we can grow today, from cabbages weighing 10lbs to the miniature varieties and the vast range of mixed leaves available in supermarkets. The next meeting will be at 7.45pm in the Brooklands Centre in Sutton on May 10. Alison Napier who is the gardener-in-charge at Peckover House will be the speaker.
