SOHAM Carnival turned out to be a great success on Bank Holiday Monday in spite of the appalling weather.
Stunt biker Jason Smith drew a young crowd who were in awe of his motorbike stunts, and carnival princess Summer Locke, nine, from St Andrew's Primary School headed the carnival procession in style in a vintage car, from Townsend to the recreation ground.
She was accompanied by her assistants Natasha Shorney, seven, of Gardener's Lane, Soham, and eight year old Chloe Kay who attends the Weatherall's School.
A Heavy Horse Show took place in the morning, followed by a classic vehicle display, bygones and a bird of prey display from the Raptor Foundation which all kept visitors entertained. Others were content to enjoy the funfair or the real ale tent.
Proceeds from the day will go to local organisations in Soham. Organiser Kim Botting said: "Everybody seemed to enjoy themselves. I've still got money to come in, but after all our overheads we should have raised about £2-2,500.
