THOUSANDS of people packed into Cherry Hill Park in Ely on Saturday night to enjoy the city’s annual firework spectacular.
Hosted by Ely XT, the charity firework event saw crowds pack into the park and the surrounding streets to catch a glimpse of the fireworks and enjoy a feast of activities besides.
There was a bonfire held before the main event and plenty of fun and games for visitors to the park, which sits adjacent to Ely Cathedral, to enjoy.
Schools across East Cambridgeshire were invited to take part in the Guy competition, with 150 awarded to Mepal and Witcham Primary School for their Olympic-themed entry.
The city’s annual display began in 1974 and has raised tens of thousands of pounds for local clubs and good causes since then. Last year, more than 10,000 was handed out to groups including the Soham Fenlander Majorettes, Ely Swimming Club and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.
