THERE is fun for everyone at the Sutton Feast Week celebrations, which are well underway in the village

The annual event kicked off last week, with a variety of craft activities taking place.

Over the weekend, villagers got to show their competitive side in a number of contests, including a duck race, a Scalextric competition - dubbed the Sutton Grand Prix - and a football tournament.

Carol Fentimen, joint chairman of the Feast Week committee, said the events so far have proved popular but more is yet to come.

Mrs Fentimen said: "The weather is with us this year and the events are proving popular. Everybody loves the duck race, it is always well attended and the Scalextric event was great too - the track took up the village hall, it wasn't your normal track."

New this year was a five-a-side football tournament, for mixed teams of all ages.

Other successful events so far have include the Family Fun Run on Sunday, which attracted more than 60 entrants, and the Sutton Feast Beast, which was included in the A1 series of races and attracted 100 runners.

Highlights to look forward to include the Beer Festival, which, unusually, is held in St Andrews Church. The festival runs across three consecutive nights, starting yesterday (Wednesday) and each evening has a different theme - jazz, folk, or rock - and a band will provide live music.

On Saturday, the Friends of Sutton School will hold their annual fete and the monthly Tithe Sale will take place at the village church.

Mrs Fentimen is looking forward to one particular event that day.

She said: "Murder in the Glebe is going to be really good. It has a Tudor theme and everyone has to dress up in costume. You will really need your sleuthing skills and to keep your wits about you."

She added: "With Sutton Feast Week, we try to put something on for all age groups and to keep the costs down so that everyone can enjoy it. It's really about building a community and we want everyone to be involved.

"We couldn't do this without all the people that volunteer their time and I would like to say a big thank you to all of them."
