Gallery: Students collect A-Level results

SIXTH form students from across East Cambridgeshire ended months of nervous waiting on Thursday morning as they collected their A-level results.

Hundreds of anxious teenagers made the dreaded trip into school halls and classrooms in both Ely and Cambridge to collect their all-important grades, with early signs showing another record year.

At Ely Community College, dozens of students were celebrating another successful year, with many students already assured of their place at university through announcements on the admissions website, UCAS.

The undoubted star of the show at the college however, was 20 year-old Lithuanian student Linus Karaveckas, who scored two A grades and a B grade that saw him secure a place at Kingston University in west London studying Aerospace Engineering, Astronautics and Space Technology.

Principal Catherine Jenkinson-Dix, said: "It looks to have been another successful year for our students with many getting both what they wanted and what they needed to move on to university and onto their A2 studies."

At King's School students celebrated a record-breaking set of results, with the school announcing that an unprecedented 44 per cent of grades were As, with 70 per cent being an A or B. The overall A-C pass rate stood at 87 per cent with the A-E pass rate at 99 per cent.

Cllr David Harty, Cambridgeshire County Council's Cabinet Member for Learning said: "This is another set of highly impressive results. Yet again, A-level students in Cambridgeshire have excelled. Their hard work and dedication have paid dividends. Cambridgeshire's young people have once more done themselves proud. They are a credit to themselves, their teachers and their families. Congratulations to them all, and I wish them every success in the next stage of their careers.
