STAR Radio swept to victory for the second year running at the Ely Standard pancake race.

The sprightly team-of-four took line honours from the Ely fire station crew, edging ahead to take their second title but a pan's length.

The Ely Standard team came home in third place, recovering from a sluggish start to pip a sprightly Millets team, who raised eyebrows after turning up with a wok instead of the more traditional pan.

The race itself featured six of East Cambridgeshire's brightest teams and took place on Ely Market Place. Dozens of spectators gathered to watch the event which was back for its second year after its 2009 debut.

The enthusiastic Waitrose team sprinted home to take fifth place overall with the dreaded wooden spoon going, once again, to the team representing ADeC.
