Staff from the Ely branch teamed up with other stores from around the region for a tag rugby match and an ‘iron man’ event which saw team members run, cycle and swim from store to store.

The Atrium Club in Ely provided a static bike for staff to cycle the equivalent distance of Lands End to John O’Groats, which was completed over three days by a team which including manager Karen Watts.

And, on Friday, staff surprised customers by carrying out a flash dance at 1pm, which saw the management team dancing to Superman by Black Lace, in the main foyer.

Volunteers from Ely Rowing Club carried out a bag packing event at the Lisle Lane store and helped to sell the official Sainsbury’s sport relief scratch cards, with all proceeds going to the charity.

Sainsbury’s CEO Justin King also joined the fundraising efforts on Saturday morning, running alongside Ely colleagues Tom Knights and Justine Petrou in a one mile fun run at Milton Country Park.

The total raised is expected to top £2,500 when all monies are collected.
