Parents and pupils came together at Littleport Community Primary School to plant hundreds of trees around the school grounds.
The school had been successful in bidding for 420 trees offered free by the Woodland Trust, which was enough for every pupil to plant one.
Head teacher John Cattermole, said: “We were overwhelmed by the response of the parents We asked them to come in and help us to plant our trees, and hundreds came along, with spades to help, as well as aunties, uncles, grandparents.
“Many stayed to help other children as well as their own. This shows what a caring school community we have, and how important we think learning outdoors is.”
The school is promoting more learning outdoors and, it is hoped, planting the trees will encourage more wildlife into the school grounds.
School site manager, Lindsay Winters, added: “We are also lucky to have a fantastic PTFA who are creating a nature area with a pond for us, along with decking and natural seating. We are really well placed to get our children outdoors learning more about nature.”
