GALLERY: Hundreds turn out for Remembrance Sunday
SERVICES of Remembrance took place across the district on Sunday morning, with hundreds of people turning out to honour those who lost their lives for their country.
In Ely, a packed Market Place listened to a short service before Mayor of Ely John Yates and Cllr Richard Hobbs laid wreaths at the city’s war memorial.
Cannon fire signalled the start of two-minute silence, which was impeccably observed by the hundreds in attendance.
In Littleport, a short service and wreath laying ceremony was held at the war memorial outside St George’s Church before those attending moved to the corner of Granby Street and Victoria Street, where a wreath was layed at a memorial to railwayman James William Nightall.
Nightall was posthumously awarded the George Cross for the gallantry he showed during the Soham rail disaster.
