ELY City's dreams of FA Vase glory were ended on Saturday as they went down 3-0 at St Ives.

Goals from Carl Foreman, Conor Washington and Ozie Foster helped the Saints to their tenth win on the bounce against an Ely team missing five first team regulars.

Boss Denis Lighting, said: "For one reason or another I had five first team players unavailable for selection so it was always going to be difficult for us.

"I thought that 3-0 flattered St Ives a little and I think that on another day when we have a full squad out we would have given them a real game."

Ives got off to the best possible start when Foster eased down the right wing and crossed for Foreman to tap in the first after just a minute.

On 16 minutes Ives stretched their lead when 17-year-old Conor Washington latched onto a through ball, turned and fired into the bottom corner of Lee Pacey's goal.

Saints could have tied the game up before half-time when captain Will Fordham - making his 400th appearance for the club - crashed a header off the bar.

The Robins seemed reinvigorated after half-time, putting the Ives backline under pressure from dead ball situations. Gavin Armitage was called upon to make two outstanding acrobatic saves to protect his clean sheet.

With the Robins pushing in search of a foothold in the game, Ives had chances to wrap the game up.

Foster grabbed the goal his performance deserved when he waltzed past two defenders to fire low past Pacey.
