HUNDREDS of visitors flocked to see a forest of beautifully decorated festive Christmas trees on display at Ely Methodist Church over the weekend.

About 20 decorated trees were on show, with entries from church groups and other city organisations, including the Friends of Jubilee Gardens, the brownies, U3A, Action for Children, and Camsar, Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue.

Church treasurer Celia Summerfield was delighted to announce that the event raised 1,154 for church funds.

“We had a wonderful weekend, we ran out of food, so you can see how busy we were” she said. “It was a really brilliant effort by everyone. We had hundrds of visitors, and on Saturday the church was packed to watch young dancers peform. We were also delighted that many other people provided entertainment, from singing groups and soloists, to pianists and organists.”

On Sunday morning, Rev Barbara Garwood officiated at a special celebration service, with many of the organisations who took part in the festival choosing hymns or readings.
