HUNDREDS of people turned out in sweltering weather on Sunday for the Haddenham and Aldreth's annual village open day, Blossoms and Bygones.

A park-and-ride tractor system ferried villagers to and from the various exhibits and attractions, which included open gardens, dog displays by Growlies Dog Club on the recreation ground and a Muppet Show at Haddenham Baptist Church.

Member of the Arkenstall Centre committee Barbara Fairchild told the Ely Standard the total stands at around £1,500, all of which will go towards the cost of running the centre.

"I had written a piece for our parish magazine ordering good weather, and I thought I'd be in for it if it wasn't sunny, said Mrs Fairchild. "The weather was so nice the problem was getting people off the tractors as there was a lovely breeze as they drove round the villages. This will be the 37th year of Blossoms and Bygones so we are turning into a well-oiled machine.
