VISITORS were able to learn about the history and drainage of the Fens at an event at Ely Museum on Saturday. The event was all part of Science Week in Action. Earlier in the week, Ely Museum hosted workshops for 160 local school children who visited Wicken Fen, Ely Museum and Prickwillow Drainage Museum to see how science played a part in draining the Fens. Saturday was the culmination of this work and enable visitors to see some of the old tools and pumps used. There were replica pumps, Archimedes screws to work and a model of the type of steam pump that was used in the Fens, which was brought to Ely by volunteers from the Cambridge Museum of Technology.
