Friends organise charity football match for Soham boy Alex Lister’s wheelchair appeal

Two friends teamed up to organise a charity football match in aid of a boy they have known since primary school.
Twelve-year-olds Benjamin Francis and Elli-Rai Quinn-Nicholls staged the game at Soham Village College, where Alex Lister, who is wheelchair-bound after a brain tumour left him with a weakness down his right side, is a pupil.
Alex’s family has launched an appeal to raise £4,000 so he can get a new wheelchair.
The pair’s football match has raised £54, with more to be collected.
Benjamin’s proud mum Melanie said: “The idea came when they saw the Facebook campaign. They’ve known Alex for years so they decided it would be good to raise money for him.”
