COUNCIL chiefs are to work with their opposite numbers across the county in a bid to get free bus travel without boundaries for the over 60s.

The move, spearheaded by the Liberal Democrats at Tuesday night's annual East Cambridgeshire District Council meeting, would extend the Government scheme which allows free travel within the district.

The scheme was introduced in April but left pensioners and disabled travellers facing full fares as soon as they crossed the district boundary.

Cllr. Valerie Leake who proposed the move, said: "I am delighted that this proposal has been passed. I hope it will greatly ease the problem of transport for a whole group of people within the district.

"The next thing is to get the time limitations removed so that the service is available throughout the day, not just after 9.30am.
